An awesome thanks to Jonathan C. for translating this from the Honda Japan website.
Honda Japan had release a new model of minivan called Honda Stream just a
few days ago. The minivan is about the size of a Honda Civic. The Honda
Stream has two engines on board. The new 1.7L SOHC VTEC similar to the new
Civic and the all new 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC. The DOHC i-VTEC is obviously the
new generation of DOHC VTEC. Both Honda Stream and DOHC i-VTEC photos are
included below.
The 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC first appeared in the Honda Stream. Like the 1.7L SOHC
VTEC, the DOHC i-VTEC is of compact construction which weight 10% less than
conventional 2.0L engines. The all-new engine is also LEV (or possibly
ULEV) compliance. The "i" stands for intelligent. What made it more
intelligent than the current VTEC is Honda had applied the constant Variable
Timing Control (VTC) to the already variable intake valves. In addition,
Honda had made the intake manifold with variable length, also the exhaust
system with lean-burn techology which uses a special chemical compound to
clean the NOx emission. Meanwhile, the engine block's construction is also
being strengthen. Maximum power of this engine delivers to the Honda Stream
is 113kw (154PS) @ 6500rpm. This engine also complies the Heisei 22nd year
(year 2010) fuel consumption level, one litre of fuel will run approximately
14.2km of distance. The i-series engine will be manufactured in Honda's
Saitama facilites.
While Honda is already being recognised worldwide as the world cleanest
cars, they also stated that they intend to make all Japanese market models
LEV compliance (or possibly ULEV) by the year 2002.
