Just this morning, our local Australian Motoring Organisations combined
announced the first National Consumer-Focused car awards, broken down in
various categories. I'll leave it up to each of you to guess which car got
to win in the Best Sports Car category :-)
Our Motoring Organisations (namely NRMA, RACV, RAASA, RACQ, RACT, AANT and
RACWA) combined have nearly 7 million members from all over Australia. They
all share the thousands of phone calls per week from their members asking
advice before purchasing their next vehicle.
These awards were based on research throughout the year from these consumer
calls, from new car buyer survey results and from extensive road testing
programs conducted by various motoring clubs around the country.
The criteria include the following ... Value for Money (pricing; standard
features; running and repair costs; warranty and retained value), Design and
Function (ergonomics; innovation; build and finish quality; safety; security
and space and practicality) and On the Road (fuel efficiency; comfort;
performance; ride; handling and steering; braking; smoothness and
quietness).
Our little S2k won in the Best Sports Car category beating the following
entries... Porsche Boxster S, 911 Carrera, BMW 330Ci Coupe, BMW M5 Sedan,
Audi TT Quattro and the Mercedes SLK320. To quote the judges thoughts "For
the S2000 to triumph over this high quality group is testimony to its
ability to provide immense driving pleasure."
The web page highlighting all this is http://www.nrma.com.au There is a PDF
document amidst the Australia's Best Cars section that shows the Score
Tables for each category but for some reason I'm getting errors trying to
open it. Maybe it's too early still, pity as it will make very interesting
reading.
Enjoy !
